Empowering Families Through Mushroom Cultivation Training

As part of its ongoing efforts to support sustainable livelihoods, Caritas Valvuthayam, through its Food Security Project, conducted a hands on Mushroom Cultivation Training Program in Puthukulam, Vavuniya.

This training was specially designed for women-headed families and vulnerable individuals, offering practical knowledge on mushroom farming as a low-cost, income-generating activity that can be done at home. A total of 22 parents participated in the training, including 1 male and 21 female participants.

Facilitated by the Food Security Team, the session covered key topics such as spawn preparation, cultivation techniques, hygiene, and post-harvest handling, with a focus on using locally available resources.

Caritas Valvuthayam remains committed to empowering vulnerable communities especially women with skills that promote food security, economic resilience, and dignity.
