As part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and self-reliance, Caritas Valvuthayam, through its Food Security Project, organized a practical training session on Vermicompost Fertilizer Production in Tharapuram Village, Mannar District.
The training was conducted with the support of a qualified Agriculture Instructor, who provided hands-on guidance to participants on how to produce organic fertilizer using earthworms—an environmentally friendly method that enhances soil fertility and crop yield.
A total of 28 participants (5 males and 23 females) took part in the session, demonstrating strong community interest, especially among women, in adopting organic farming practices. This initiative aims to reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers, lower production costs, and encourage healthier food production for local consumption.
Such programs are a key part of Caritas Valvuthayam’s commitment to empowering rural communities with knowledge and tools for sustainable livelihoods and ecological balance.
