Locations: Tharanekulam and Katpakapuram Villages in Vavuniya district
As part of its continuous commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship, Caritas Valvuthayam, through the SSEP (A Stepping Stone to Safeguarding Sri Lanka’s Natural Environment) project, organized a Smart Agriculture Training Program for farmers in the villages of Tharanekulam and Katpakapuram in April 2025.
Program Locations & Participation
- Tharanekulam Village – 55 farmers trained on 9th April 2025
- Katpakapuram Village – 12 farmers trained on 11th April 2025
The program was specifically designed to address the unique agricultural needs and environmental conditions of each village, making the sessions both practical and impactful.
Objective
To educate and equip local farmers with smart agricultural practices that enhance crop productivity, ensure long-term sustainability, and promote efficient use of natural resources.

- Water Management: Efficient irrigation techniques and water conservation strategies
