On a significant note of collaboration and reflection, Caritas Valvuthayam – Mannar welcomed a distinguished delegation from Caritas Korea and the SEDEC National Centre (Caritas Sri Lanka) for a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation visit.
The delegation included:
- Very Rev. Fr. Francis, National Director – Caritas Korea
- Miss Agnes Shin, Caritas Korea
- Rev. Fr. Luke Nelson Perera, Director – SEDEC (Caritas Sri Lanka)
- Project staff from both Caritas Korea and SEDEC
The purpose of the visit was to review the progress and impact of both ongoing and completed projects funded by Caritas Korea focusing particularly on the current educational assistance project aimed at war-affected and economically vulnerable school and university students in the Mannar District.
Education Empowerment in Action
Our Director, Rev. Fr. G.A. Arulraj Croos, extended a warm welcome to the team and presented an in-depth overview of how the education support initiative has uplifted students in need enhancing academic achievement, boosting self-confidence, and enabling continued learning despite adversity.
During an engaging discussion session, several student beneficiaries shared their personal stories, expressing how the support from Caritas Korea has become a life-changing pillar in their educational journey and daily lives.
Field Insights & Community Impact
The delegation also visited several target villages, interacting with beneficiaries of past projects such as the IHD Civic Dialogue Initiative and Support for Returnees from India. These field visits offered firsthand glimpses into the improved living conditions, increased social stability, and renewed hope among families who once experienced displacement and hardship.
A particularly heartfelt moment was a home visit to one of the university student beneficiaries an experience that deeply moved the visiting team as they witnessed the tangible impact of their support on her education and family’s quality of life.
Shared Vision for the Future
Rev. Fr. Arulraj also shared updates on Caritas Valvuthayam’s 2025 activities, all rooted in the Jubilee Year theme: “Pilgrims of Hope”. He emphasized the organization’s long-term commitment to rebuilding lives and fostering peace in the region through holistic, community-driven development.
This monitoring visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between Caritas Korea and Caritas Valvuthayam, built on shared values of compassion, dignity, and service.
Our Deepest Gratitude
We express our sincere thanks to Caritas Korea and SEDEC National Centre for their steadfast commitment, ongoing support, and trust in our mission. Together, we continue to walk with vulnerable communities nurturing resilience, hope, and opportunity in every step.
