On November 22, 2024, Caritas Valvuthayam and Caritas HUDEC Vanni proudly hosted the much-anticipated Exhibition & Sales of Entrepreneurs, under the theme of “We too are winners”, celebrating the remarkable talents and entrepreneurial spirit of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Families of Children with Disabilities, and Women’s Groups from Rural Villages. This inspiring activity was organized under the CBR (Community-Based Rehabilitation) project, which supports Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Mannar (Caritas Valvuthayam) and Kilinochchi (Caritas HUDEC Vanni).
The event was graced by Most Rev. Dr. Fidelis Lionel Emmanuel Fernando, the Bishop of the Mannar Diocese. In his message Bishop congratulated the activities and the exhibition and encouraged our Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for further success and gave his blessing to everyone. And the Assistant Planning Director of Mannar District Mr. Kiristnarasa also participated as the Chief Guest, offering encouragement and motivation to our SHGs. Caritas Valvuthayam used this event as an opportunity to showcase their talents. The occasion was further honored by the presence of Very Rev. Fr. P. Christunayaham, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Mannar, along with the dedicated staff from the National Centre CBR Project and SEDEC – Caritas Sri Lanka, who were welcomed as Guests of Honor.
Held from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, this vibrant exhibition featured a diverse array of locally-made products and innovative creations from nearly 20 SHGs, showcasing the skills and creativity of people overcoming challenges. From handwoven crafts to homemade goods and sustainable products, each item told a powerful story of resilience and dedication. It was not just a sale but a celebration of how inclusion, empowerment, and skill development can change lives.
The initiative, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. G. A. Arulraj Croos, Director of Caritas Valvuthayam, underscores the importance of economic empowerment for marginalized communities, especially those with disabilities. Fr Director highlighted how such entrepreneurial activities not only provide financial independence but also contribute to the wider societal acceptance of people with disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Caritas Valvuthayam and Caritas HUDEC Vanni are committed to building a future of inclusion, where everyone, regardless of ability or background, has the opportunity to thrive. Through programs like these, they continue to bring hope, dignity, and opportunity to those in need.
Finally, in this program we celebrated the strength, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of these incredible individuals.
