Caritas Valvuthayam recently organized a two-day vocational skill training session in Moonrampiddy, Manthai West, on the 16th and 17th of September 2024. The event brought together 25 participants, including children with disabilities, their parents, SHG members (Self-Help Groups) of persons with disabilities, and preschool teachers. The training aimed to develop hand functions in children with disabilities while providing parents, SHG members, and teachers with valuable skills.
The training covered a variety of creative crafts, including making paper flowers, teddy bears, stocking flowers for decorative items, greeting cards, and cake decorating techniques. These activities not only fostered creativity but also encouraged skill development that could be translated into small business opportunities for families.
Objectives of the Training:
1. Enhance hand functions and fine motor skills in children with disabilities.
2. Equip parents with activities to engage and train their children at home.
3. Empower SHG members to pursue small business ventures using these creative skills.
4. Provide preschool teachers with techniques to assist students with disabilities in special education.
Participant Feedback:
Participants expressed their happiness with the training, appreciating the practical skills they gained. They requested additional sessions in the future to further enhance their abilities and continue developing their skills.
This initiative is part of Caritas Valvuthayam’s ongoing commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and their families, fostering inclusion, and building self-sufficiency through skill development.
