As part of its commitment to building resilient communities, Caritas Valvuthayam, through its Food Security Project, conducted a one-day training workshop on “Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Preparedness” on 30th June 2025.
The workshop was attended by 55 participants (52 women and 3 men), reflecting strong community engagement, especially among women. The session was led by Mr. K. Thileepan, Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre, who served as the resource person. He provided valuable insights on the increasing risks posed by climate change and shared practical strategies for disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, and adaptive farming practices.
The training aimed to empower rural communities with the knowledge and tools needed to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to climate-related hazards such as droughts, floods, and extreme weather events—factors that directly affect agriculture and food security.
By integrating disaster preparedness into the Food Security Project, Caritas Valvuthayam reinforces its holistic approach to development, ensuring that vulnerable communities are not only food secure but also climate resilient.
