As part of our ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and self-reliance, Caritas Valvuthayam’s Food Security Project conducted a Compost Fertilizer Training Program in Kumanaiyankulam, Mannar. This important initiative was led by our Food Security Coordinator and dedicated staff who provided hands-on guidance and technical knowledge to the participants.
A total of 16 beneficiaries took part in the training, including 12 women and 4 men, reflecting strong female participation and leadership in rural agricultural development.
The training focused on:
- The importance of organic compost in enriching soil health
- Cost-effective methods of compost production using locally available materials
- Practical demonstrations and community-based approaches to improve home gardening and farming outcomes
Through this session, participants gained not only skills but also motivation to adopt eco-friendly practices that contribute to food security and environmental conservation.
Caritas Valvuthayam remains committed to empowering vulnerable communities across Mannar district by equipping them with knowledge and tools that lead to sustainable livelihoods.
