A livestock training program was recently held in Alavakkai Village, Mannar, where 22 community members including 21 women and 1 man came together to learn about better practices in animal care and management.
The session was facilitated by a qualified Veterinary Doctor, who shared practical insights on animal health, disease prevention, feeding, and livestock handling techniques. The hands-on training aimed to equip participants, especially women from vulnerable households, with the knowledge to improve their livelihood through small-scale livestock farming.
This training was part of the broader Food Security Project of Caritas Valvuthayam, which continues to support rural families in achieving sustainable income and nutritional stability.
The event not only built technical skills but also encouraged community participation and empowerment, especially among women who are key contributors to household food production.
