As part of the project “Improving Rural Livelihoods, Enhancing Food Security, and Building Climate Resilience in Sri Lanka,” supported by Caritas Norway, an introductory workshop was conducted in Pallakkamam to engage with the local community and lay the foundation for sustainable development initiatives.
The Program Coordinator led the session, providing a comprehensive overview of the project and its objectives. The selection criteria for beneficiaries were clearly outlined, focusing on:
✅ Farmer families
✅ Women-headed households
✅ Persons with disabilities
✅ Widows
✅ Families with low income and larger households
✅ Households with access to land and water resources
✅ Those interested in home gardening and sustainable agriculture
A key aspect of the workshop was the formation of a Community-Based Organization (CBO) to facilitate community participation and long-term sustainability. The selection of administrative members for the CBO was also conducted, ensuring inclusive and effective local leadership.
The workshop saw the participation of 39 beneficiaries, along with the Program Coordinator, Area Field Officer, Parish Priest, Grama Niladhari (GN), and Development Officer (DO).
This initiative marks a vital step in strengthening food security, climate resilience, and sustainable rural livelihoods, empowering communities to build a self-sufficient future.
Stay tuned for further updates on this impactful journey!
