In a heartfelt ceremony held at Valvuthayam Hall, Caritas Valvuthayam bid farewell to Rev. Fr. S. Anton, the dedicated director who led the organization from 2018 to 2023. Appointed by the Bishop of Mannar Diocese, Rev. Fr. S. Anton navigated challenging times, marked notably by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
During his tenure, the resilient director faced the impact of the pandemic head-on, particularly in the Mannar and Vavuniya districts. People in these areas struggled with essential needs, including food, as the virus disrupted normalcy. Rev. Fr. S. Anton, without prejudice, displayed exceptional leadership in managing the crisis, ensuring that the community received vital services.
As Sri Lanka grappled with an economic crisis, exacerbated by the pandemic, families in Mannar and Vavuniya found it increasingly challenging to sustain themselves. Rev. Fr. S. Anton, leading Caritas Valvuthayam, played a crucial role in providing support. The organization extended assistance in the form of dry rations, food packs, and medical aid to those in need (Dry ration and food pack around 4767 people medical support – more than 7200 people) .
The culmination of five years of dedicated service by Rev. Fr. S. Anton marked a significant milestone. In recognition of his unwavering commitment, the Bishop of Mannar Diocese appointed Rev. Fr. G. A. Arulraj Croos as the new director of Caritas Valvuthayam.
The transition was formally marked on October 31, 2023, when Caritas Valvuthayam’s staff organized a Farewell and Welcome event. Expressing gratitude, the staff thanked Rev. Fr. S. Anton for his pivotal role and steadfast support during his directorship. The occasion served as a reflection on the challenges overcome and the lives touched under his compassionate leadership.
In a symbolic ceremony, the new director, Rev. Fr. G. A. Arulraj Croos, took the Oath of Office in the presence of the organization’s staff and the Bishop of Mannar Diocese. The event not only celebrated the legacy of Rev. Fr. S. Anton but also welcomed the fresh perspective and leadership of Rev. Fr. G. A. Arulraj Croos.
As Caritas Valvuthayam embarks on a new chapter under the guidance of Rev. Fr. G. A. Arulraj Croos, the organization remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the community and addressing the evolving needs of the people in Mannar and Vavuniya.
