Workshop on vision, speech and hearing impairment how it affects the children and the ways and means to reduce it or completely heal. This was organized on 11th April 20222. There were 89 participants among them 13 children participated in this program.

The glimpse of the workshop:

  • By birth how children are in the state of being born with vision, speech and hearing impairment.
  • The condition when it occurs in the child being in the womb or after birth.
  • Early identification and treatment methods.
  • As well as we discussed widely about the challenges met by children who are visual, speech and hearing impairment.
  • For the early diagnosis of this impairment what are the medical treatment needs to be undertaken.
  • The training methods to develop the communication skills of such children.
  • The importance of speech therapy and sign language also was explained in details.

Nuffield school at Jaffna

 Nuffield special school for the deaf and blind children is located in Kaithady, Jaffna district. It was founded in the year1965.at present 127 children are given special education among them 78 children stay in the home for the children, they are given special education and treatment.

Services offered in the school

  • Sensory test
  • Hearing test
  • Sign language classes
  • Speech therapy
  • Also sign language and speech therapy sessions are given to the out siders who wish to learn.

We had joint discussion with Nuffield school teachers and the speech therapist regarding speech, vision and hearing impairment. In this Nuffield school teachers and students, Manthai west CBRS, SHG members, parents of children with hearing and speech impairment, and Mardap staff are participated in this visit.
