Caritas Valvuthayam’s Food Security Unit, in partnership with Caritas Norway, conducted an Introductory Workshop for Farmers in Maalikaithidal on March 12, 2025, at 9:30 pm. This initiative aimed to engage local farmers, assess community needs, and promote sustainable agricultural practices for long-term food security.
Key Highlights of the Event
Project Overview: The Program Coordinator introduced the initiative, highlighting its focus on empowering farmer communities through resource-based development and sustainable agricultural practices.
Community Selection Criteria: The selection process prioritized farmer families, women-headed households, persons with disabilities, widows, and low-income families. Key factors included land and water availability, interest in home gardening, and family size, ensuring maximum impact for those most in need.
Formation of Community-Based Organization (CBO): To strengthen community leadership and participation, administrative members for the CBO were selected. This ensures that farmers and community members take an active role in shaping and leading development initiatives.
Participation: The workshop saw engagement from 45 beneficiaries, the Program Coordinator, the Area Field Officer, the Grama Niladhari (GN), and the Development Officer (DO), fostering collaboration between the community and key stakeholders.
