Caritas Valvuthayam Participates in National Communication and Fundraising Workshop

On 1st April 2025, the Communication Team of Caritas Valvuthayam actively participated in a national-level Communication and Fundraising Workshop organized by Caritas Sri Lanka (SEDEC) with the support of the Communication and Fundraising Unit of Caritas Norway. The event took place at the SEDEC National Centre and brought together communication representatives from all Diocesan Centres within the Caritas network in Sri Lanka.

This dynamic and insightful workshop was designed to strengthen communication strategies across the network and enhance each centre’s capacity to connect with communities, share impactful stories, and effectively engage with donors and partners.

Topics Covered During the Workshop:

  • What is communication and its importance in development work
  • Different types of communication and how they can be effectively used at diocesan level
  • The “C7” principles of effective communication
  • Barriers to effective communication and ways to overcome them
  • Roles and responsibilities of communication within an organization
  • Elements of a good story and the types of storytelling
  • How to tell stories using video and written formats
  • Using smartphones for capturing and sharing content
  • Group work focusing on conducting interviews and transforming real stories into written and video formats

The interactive sessions and practical exercises provided a platform for mutual learning, collaboration, and creativity. Participants explored innovative ways to amplify the voices of the vulnerable and promote transparency, trust, and solidarity through powerful storytelling.

Caritas Valvuthayam thanks Caritas Sri Lanka and Caritas Norway for this valuable opportunity to enhance our communication approach. We remain committed to sharing the stories of hope, healing, and human dignity from the grassroots.
