Caritas Valvuthayam recently organized an impactful exposure visit under the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) project. The visit included trips to Olirum Valvu, a Special Education School in Puthukudiruppu, Mullaithivu District and ReeCha, a Children’s Park designed for children in Jakkachchi, Kilinochchi District.
The Olirum Valvu Centre visit was a heartwarming experience for all involved. Participants included children with disabilities and their parents, preschool teachers, special education teachers, CBR workers, field staff, and the project coordinator. Both the visiting group and the staff at Olirum Valvu, including teachers, caretakers, and managers, shared their experiences, challenges, and successes in managing the needs of children with disabilities. The interaction was enriching for all, fostering a sense of community and mutual support.
The children from both groups engaged in joyful activities like dancing and singing, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. The smiles and laughter were a testament to the success of the event.
Following this, the group visited ReeCha Children’s Park, where the children played happily and participated in various activities. The park provided a safe and enjoyable environment for the children, further enhancing the day’s experiences.
The visit concluded successfully with a total of 53 participants, including 33 members of Valvuthayam’s CBR project team, Preschool teachers and Special education teachers and 20 children with disabilities. The event was not only a joyful day out but also a meaningful exchange of knowledge and experiences, contributing to the ongoing efforts to support children with disabilities in the community.
