Community Collaboration Shines: Mannar’s Beach Cleaning Initiative Clears Polythene and Plastic Pollution.

Caritas Valvuthayam under the funding assistance of Misereor in collaboration with  with Mannar Central Environmental Authority, Mannar Town DS office and Urban Council organized a beach cleaning event today on 15th of September 2023 at 7.30am to 11.30am. As a first event of the day, Mrs.J.M.Mary Antanitta the officer in charge of Mannar Center Environmental Authority conducted an awareness session on ‘beach protection and waste management’.

Keeri village people, environment protection groups, Valvuthayam staff, Central Environmental Authority officials, field level government officials and staff from Urban Council participated in the event. The beach fishing area from Thalvupadu village to Keeri village, filled with polythene and plastic wastes, was fully cleaned by the participants. The collected wastes were moved to waste dumping spot by Urban Council.
