On April 9, 2025, Caritas Valvuthayam, with the support of Caritas Norway, conducted a Capacity Building Program for Farmer Households in Alavakkai, aimed at promoting sustainable and organic farming practices among local farmers.
Practical Learning for Sustainable Growth
The session was enriched by the participation of the Assistant Provincial Director of Agriculture – Uyilankulam and the Agricultural Instructor (AI), who led a hands-on training session focusing on:
- The importance of organic farming for long-term sustainability
- Practical farming techniques to improve productivity
- Compost making using local resources
- Preparation of natural pest repellents to reduce chemical dependency
Their insights encouraged farmers to adopt eco-friendly methods that enhance soil health and ensure safer food production.
Community Engagement
A total of 32 farmer beneficiaries participated, along with the Program Coordinator, Field Officer, AI, and government agricultural representatives. This collaborative effort marked a significant step toward building resilient farming communities equipped with knowledge and tools to face environmental challenges.
Caritas Valvuthayam remains committed to climate-smart agriculture and empowering rural communities with practical skills for a more sustainable and food-secure future.
