“Empowering Youth for Environmental Action: Formation of Caritas Active Civilian Youth Group (CACYG) in Madu Road, Mannar”

A Caritas Active Civilian Youth Group (CACYGs) was formed at Madu road under the leadership of Madu road parish priest on 25th February 2023 under SSEP. With the Co-operation of all the members from this group, an action plan was successfully drafted for the year 2023. Promoting the cultivation of traditional rice varieties is the major activity planned by the group. According to their plan a traditional rice variety known as ‘Seenati’ is going to be sow in half acres of paddy field by the members and the final cultivation will be shared among the group members. Madu road is a small village located in the junction of a main road which leads to ‘Madhu Church’. Garbage dumping & drinking water issue are the two major environmental related issues face by the people live in this village. After the discussion among group members, a petition paper about their issues regarding the environment was submitted to Nanattan Divisional Secretariat with the signatures of group members & parish priest. A copy of this petition paper was submitted to Caritas- Valvuthayam.
