In this COVID pandemic season, the CBO of Keerisuddan noticed that many young people were staying at home without any working opertunities. Therefore, they planned to promote groundnut cultivation with the support of a local NGO called Mulla.
Based on the knowledge gained through the training program on “Proposal Writing” conducted by Caritas-Valvuthayam, in collaboration with the Mannar Chamber the CBO developed a proposal. The proposal was approved by the local authority and the CBO received a bulk of 100Kg seeds. With an agreement with the Youth Club, of Keerisuddan, the CBO has started a “SEED BANK” and the bank’s provision of seeds for groundnut cultivation this season has encouraged those young people. The yield seeds will be collected from the beneficiaries during the harvest time as per the contract. The CBO disbursed LKR 5,000.00 as a recoverable loan to cover their additional expenses.
