From March 4 to March 7, 2025, the National Center (CSL-SEDEC) team conducted a monitoring and evaluation visit to Caritas Mannar – Valvuthayam, assessing the impact of the successfully completed Stepping Stone to Safeguarding Sri Lanka (SSEP) and One Body One Spirit (OBOS) projects.
As part of their visit, the team evaluated the beneficiaries who benefited from these initiatives and reviewed their progress.
Community Engagement & Savings Groups Formation
During the visit, the team participated in a Savings Group meeting in Tharanikulam village, Mannar, under the SSEP project. A total of 37 beneficiaries took part (17 men and 20 women), discussing the future plans of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and strategies for sustainability.
Similarly, in Kaddaiyadampan village, a new Savings Group was formed under the OBOS project, consisting of 11 beneficiaries (4 men and 7 women), further strengthening the community’s economic resilience.
Additionally, the National Center team visited new beneficiaries’ lands to assess progress in perennial crop cultivation, ensuring long-term food security and livelihood sustainability.
Livelihood & Disaster Risk Reduction (LDR) Training
As part of the OBOS project, the team also conducted a Livelihood & Disaster Risk Reduction (LDR) program at Caritas Valvuthayam’s Hall, with 16 beneficiaries participating (9 men and 7 women). The session focused on equipping beneficiaries with knowledge and strategies to mitigate risks in their livelihoods, fostering resilience in vulnerable communities.
Caritas Valvuthayam remains committed to empowering communities through these initiatives, ensuring that sustainable development and social transformation continue to thrive.
