Caritas Valvuthayam’s Food Security Unit successfully organized a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and Village Development Planning session in Thoddaveli on March 11, 2025, at 9:30 am with the support of Caritas Norway. This initiative aimed to empower local communities by assessing resources, understanding village history, and forming a Community-Based Organization (CBO) to lead future development initiatives.
Key Highlights of the Event
Project Overview: The Program Coordinator provided a detailed explanation of the project’s objectives, focusing on strengthening local participation in development efforts.
Village Mapping & Resource Identification: Participants engaged in discussions about their village’s history, infrastructure, and available resources to help create an effective development plan.
Community Leadership Formation: Administrative members for the Community-Based Organization (CBO) were selected, ensuring local leadership and community-driven decision-making.
Participation: The event brought together 42 beneficiaries, the Program Coordinator, the Area Field Officer, the Grama Niladhari (GN), and the Development Officer (DO), fostering collaboration between the community and key stakeholders.
Looking Ahead
This PRA session marks an important step in strengthening community participation and sustainable village development. With active engagement and structured planning, Thoddaveli’s residents are now better equipped to drive meaningful change and development in their village.
